Williamsburg Independent Editor George Arbogust talks about his recent post detailing the activity of the James City County Board of Supervisors in 2025.
Last year, they adopted a 263.7 million FY2026 General Fund budget, about 8.3 million higher than the prior year, while holding the real estate tax rate at 0.83. Much of the Board’s work focused on school funding, county services, and a 454.9 million five-year Capital Improvement Program. The five-member Board held 27 meetings and five town halls, cast 188 votes, held 49 public hearings, and heard 82 presentations.
The most frequent agenda items were the WJCC school operations contract, the Consolidated Government Center and library, the FY2026 budget, the strategic plan, and the Capital Improvement Program. Public comment most often focused on those same issues, along with litter, group home SUPs, and the Chickahominy Haven Marina rezoning. The Board also held 21 closed sessions to address school contracts, personnel matters, and real estate transactions.
