Builders of the new library in James City County on Longhill Road, planned as an addition to the Consolidated Government Center, recently solicited bids for work on the library’s foundations and other related aspects of the project. Documents posted online by Henderson|Gilbane Joint Venture explain that the library’s foundation work is expected to extend from work for the government center.
Bid documents notes several requirements such as slab-on-grade (SOG), a thick concrete floor poured directly onto soil or compacted gravel. It also covers underground mechanical, electrical and plumbing work (MEPS) and associated steel. The invitation specifies the the proposals should outline a guaranteed maximum price (GMP) for the work and estimates a two-year timeline for completion. A new library is also planned in downtown Williamsburg to replace their current building.
