Site plans have been submitted to convert the long-vacant SunTrust bank building on McLaws Circle in James City County, just down the road from Busch Gardens, into a Dutch Bros double drive-thru. A second location is also in the works in York County along George Washington Memorial Highway, which would mark the chain’s first foothold in Virginia and the entire mid-Atlantic region.
Founded in Oregon in 1992, Dutch Bros has built a devoted following on a menu of highly customizable coffee, energy drinks, teas, sodas, and lemonades, all served through the drive-thru window with no indoor seating.
And the competition is already lining up. Rival chain 7 Brew, the fastest-growing restaurant chain in the country according to industry trackers, is also planning a York County location.
