Construction managers overseeing two Pre-K centers in James City County, Virginia, are preparing to move into an extended building phase, with work now expected to continue into 2027. The district’s senior director of operations has outlined a proposal to extend the construction management contract for the Bright Beginnings North and Bright Beginnings South Pre-K centers, located at Norge Elementary School and Clara Byrd Baker Elementary School, through May 31, 2027, about eight months beyond the original schedule.
The proposal was outlined at a school board work session, where the senior director of operations said Williamsburg-based McDonough Bolyard Peck, known as MBP, would continue serving as the onsite construction manager through the extended building phase at both sites. School officials said work has taken longer than planned, pushing activity into the spring and summer of 2027. Officials cited weather delays, including ice last year, along with a longer than expected process to select a general contractor, as reasons for the shifted timeline. A speaker at the meeting who recently visited one of the sites said construction activity could be heard underway. Superintendent Daniel Keever is recommending that the board review the proposal and be prepared to approve the contract extension at its Sept. 15 meeting.
