York County Invites Residents Behind the Scenes
Free 10-week "Gov Series" will offer tours, demonstrations, and direct access to county departments and leaders
York County residents will soon have a chance to explore the inner workings of their local government through a new 10-week program designed to educate and engage the community.
The York County Gov Series, which begins September 11, 2025, is a free initiative that takes participants on a weekly journey through different county departments—from Public Safety and Emergency Communications to Economic Development, Public Works, Courts, and more. Each session features hands-on demonstrations, behind-the-scenes tours, and opportunities to meet with staff and leadership.
“This is a great way for residents to better understand the work we do and how they can have a voice in our community,” said County Administrator Mark Bellamy.
In addition to learning how the county is structured and how decisions are made, attendees will explore topics such as emergency response, land use planning, budgeting, and judicial services. The program also emphasizes how citizens can get involved through advisory boards and commissions.
The Gov Series is open to York County residents who are at least 18 years old and willing to attend at least 8 of the 10 sessions. Dinner is provided each week, and classes are held at various county buildings. Applications are due by Thursday, August 28, and can be submitted online at www.yorkcounty.gov/govseries.
No prior experience in government is required—just a curiosity about how your county works.
