The James City County Board of Supervisors voted to prohibit vape and smoke shops within 1,000 feet of schools or daycare centers. Existing businesses before July 1, 2024 are exempt. The ordinance also requires special use permits in certain districts. State law changes in April 2024 enabled these restrictions.
