"archē" is a Hohl new look coming to Williamsburg

The owners of a popular downtown Williamsburg restaurant recently submitted exterior design renderings to the city’s Architectural Review Board (ARB) for a new restaurant on Richmond Road called “archē”. The submission comes nearly a year after the city awarded an economic development grant to improve the exterior of the building where the new restaurant will be located. The images submitted to the ARB by the restaurateurs show a black and white color scheme, complimentary signage on the wall and out front as well as cafe-style outdoor seating.
The proposed exterior changes for new restaurant called “archē” at 1012 Richmond Road in Williamsburg.
The new restaurant will be led by one of Hohl’s owners and chef, Chris Starke. The grant agreement for the Richmond Road location specifies a revenue-sharing incentive capped at $40,000 or five years, whichever occurs first, according to a press release last year from the city. Under the arrangement, 25% of the sales and meals taxes generated by the business will be refunded to the company on a quarterly basis. According to city projections, the local sales and meals tax return on investment over the first five years of operation is estimated to hundreds of thousands of dollars, an outcome they describe as a “win-win for both the business and the City of Williamsburg.”
The city’s press release announcing the grant last year quoted Starke as saying, “We’re building more than just a menu. We’re building a place where people gather, learn, and connect … We’re excited to invest in Williamsburg and bring something new to the table – literally.” The city’s description of the restaurant states it will offer baked goods, coffee roasted on premise and a limited breakfast and lunch menu, with evening service on select days.
Neuro treatment center considered for Williamsburg
City planning documents indicate that a facility referred to as a “neuro transitional center” may be coming to Williamsburg near Doctors’ Hospital. A boundary line request submitted to the city states that the change is needed to make room for the new facility. The location of the referenced parcel also contains a new medical office building owned by the hospital. The proposed adjustment would take from a 27 acre parcel owned by Quarterpath Williamsburg LLC, which city land records indicate owns multiple parcels and over a hundred acres in the area.
Riverside Health, based in Newport News, owns Doctors’ Hospital. A representative of the company had no comment when contacted by email about the potential neuro care center. A representative from a company called Select Medical also responded to the email inquiry with no comment. That company describes itself as “a leader in post-acute recovery and rehabilitation" on its website. A review of locations listed on the site demonstrates a deep relationship with Riverside Health across the region, including hospitals in Yorktown and Newport News, as well as out-patient services in several other local cities.
